This Sunday afternoon April 23 is a special afternoon at Rockford Speedway, with the running of the 40th Anniversary Spring Classic! With it’s beginnings at two other local speedways, Spring Classic found its home at Rockford Speedway in April of 1980 and has become a “Midwest Racing Tradition 40 Years and Counting!” Spring Classic is the traditional open to the Midwest racing season, a place for race fans from throughout our region to gather and watch the very best battle in the unique afternoon setting. Despite past cold, wet and even flaky weather, this weekend’s forecast looks splendid with Sun and mid 60’s expected for Sunday! The Big 8 Late Model Series headlines Sunday with an 88 lap feature for the “Best Weekly Warriors in the Country.” As usual, Spring Classic at Rockford Speedway is a “Clash of the Champions” with two-time and defending Big 8 Series champion Michael Bilderback leading the way. Along with also collecting his first-ever Rockford Speedway Track Championship last year, Bilderback is also the reigning Spring Classic champion who is looking to join Steve Carlson, Dick Trickle and Joe Shear as one of four drivers to win Spring Classic three-or-more times. Other top-notch racers like Jeremy Miller (4x Big Series champion), Casey Johnson (2x Big 8 Series champion) and ‘Driver X’ Jon Reynolds Jr (former Big 8, Rockford Speedway and Spring Classic champion) will be among the entrants along with former Rockford champions Alex Papini and Tim Sargent and a host of drivers from as many as FIVE states looking to ‘capture the flag.’ The Mid American Stock Car Series and INEX Legends also join the 40th Anniversary card this Sunday. Gates open at 11 AM, with the first race at 1 PM. Adult admission is $20, Children 6-11 are $6, with Kids 5 and under FREE!

If you’re a collector of racing memorabilia or just an interested race fan, you won’t want to miss the Racing Collectibles Show this Sunday from 9 AM to 3 PM inside the Forest Hills Lodge. The show will feature Racing photos, Die Cast Cars, Plastic Models, Programs, T Shirts, Paperabilia, Books, Racing DVDs and MORE along with Door Prizes to be handed out during the show.
