BILDERBACK, WARE, BELDOWSKI & LOUNSBURY CLAIM WINS ON ‘SALUTE TO SERVICE NIGHT”

By: Jeep Newton

STANLEY STEEMER NASCAR LATE MODELS

Two-time Rockford Speedway track champion Michael Bilderback conquered the competition during the 30 lap Late Model main event on ‘Salute to Service’ Night. The win was Bilderback’s second win in three tries this season.

After two near misses in the race’s first five laps, which was plagued by three caution flags, the South Beloit native swept past teenager Max Kahler for the lead on the sixth circuit and held off the advances of his competition for the remainder of the race.

Kahler collected his third podium finish in five races, ending the 30 laps in second position. Matt Berger, who claimed fast qualifier honors earlier in the night, fought back to a third place finish after getting involved in an early-race incident. Jake Gille, driving his dad Tom’s number 40 car, came home in fourth, while point leader Jon Reynolds Jr rounded out the top five.

BARGAIN HUNTER SPORTSMAN

While Cody Houseweart passed under the checkered flag first in his 25 lap feature, the car he was driving was later disqualified in post-race technical inspection, awarding the win to Howie Ware.

Ware, who started in the seventh position, also was the second quickest qualifier earlier in the evening. The victory was Ware’s first of 2018.

Johnny Robinson II ended up second in the final run down, with Chad Smith credited as third. Garrick Fry was fourth while Richie Schinderling rounded out the top five.

MILLER LITE AMERICAN SHORT TRACKERS

A torrid four-car battle for the lead lasted for the first 17 laps of a caution-free 25 lap Short Tracker main event. With front row starters Shannon Stotlz and Destiny Genore officially trading the lead six times and unofficially trading the lead several more times, third and fourth place runners Aaron Rude and Franc Beldowski were forced to ‘hurry up and wait’ as Stotlz and Genore tried to separate themselves at the head of the field.

But on lap 18, Stotlz’s car suddenly slowed on the backstretch, slowing down Rude and opening the door for Beldowski. Beldowski skipped past Genore on lap 19 and raced to his third win of the season. The rookie contender Genore finished a solid second place, while Todd Snow collected a second straight top five with a third place result. Melody Welding finished fourth while Rude soldiered on to fifth.

KICKSTART ROADRUNNERS

Chad Lounsbury left little doubt on the path to a second win of the year in the Roadrunner class. Lounsbury ripped to the lead on lap number five and never looked back in a caution-free 20 lap main event.

Austin Fowler charged from an eighth place starting position to a runner up finish. Kevin Memoli was third, followed by point leader Nick Schneider in fourth and Brent Garnhardt in fifth.
