Record 29 Rockford Speedway Entries Expected This Saturday Night

(Oregon, WI) – It was 40 years ago when legendary ARTGO Promoter John McKarns and Rockford Speedway Promoter Hugh Deery put together the first ever All-Star 100 event at the famed quarter-mile oval located in Loves Park, Illinois.

This Saturday night, the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment, will return to Rockford Speedway to add another chapter into the history books of this historical short track event with the 2018 running of the Kar Korner All-Star 100.

Since 1978, the race has been held under different sanctioned series. The list of winners in this event is practically a Hall of Fame itself. Past winners include: Dick Trickle (1978, 1980, 1983, 1986), Mark Martin (1979), Joe Shear (1981, 1985, 1992), Dave Watson (1982), Bobby Allison (1984), Al Schill (1987), Butch Miller (1988), Larry Schuler (1990), Kevin Cywinski (1991), Eddie Hoffman (2007), Trent Snyder (2008), Ross Kenseth (2009), Ryan Carlson (2010), Erik Jones (2011), Michael Bilderback (2012), Ty Majeski (2015, 2017) and Jeff Holtz (2016).

Michael Bilderback and Jeff Holtz the only two drivers on the list of past winners that have entered this year’s running on Saturday night.

Joining Bilderback and Holtz is a large list of drivers hoping to end their month of June with a big victory.

Current ARCAMT point leader Paul Shafer Jr. is looking for his second victory in a row after winning his first Midwest Tour event last month at Jefferson Speedway. He currently holds a one-point lead over Austin Nason in the standings.

Nason, who won the Joe Shear Classic earlier this year, feels like he has some unfinished business in this event. Last year, he was leading with three laps to go until he got the classic short track “bump and run” from Ty Majeski coming out of turn four giving the four-time Tour champion his second All-Star 100 victory. Nason has this date circled big time on his calendar.

Casey Johnson is third in the standings and is a past winner of the National Short Track Championships at Rockford. He has been so close to tasting victory in the first three events this season, he looks to break through on Saturday night.

Dalton Zehr is fourth in the standings and will head to Rockford with a two-win streak this past weekend. Last Friday night, Zehr won the feature at Norway Speedway in Michigan and 24 hours later won the Super Late Model event at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

Andrew Morrissey will be looking for his second victory of the season after winning the Cabin Fever 100 at State Park Speedway in May, while Billy Mohn is fresh off his first ARCAMT podium finish at Jefferson Speedway.

Mohn leads a rookie field into Rockford Speedway as he is challenging John Beale, Dillon Hammond, Ryan Farrell and Mike Holmgren, Jr. for the Rookie of the Year title.

Rich Bickle Jr. is a two-time National Short Track Championship winner. ARCAMT’s Ironman Jonathan Eilen will make is 122nd start.

Michael Ostdiek is fresh off a win this past Saturday night at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minnesota while Justin Mondiek has been winning in central Wisconsin. Sophomore competitor John DeAngelis Jr. hopes to start a win streak of his own this Saturday night.

Rockford Speedway regulars have also filed an entry this Saturday night. Jon Reynolds Jr. won this past Saturday night while Jake Gille is a former track champion along with Bilderback.

Ricky Baker recently won the Frank Welch Memorial at Grundy County Speedway.

Steve Apel is a former Slinger Super Speedway track champion.

James Swan is a former ARCAMT Rookie of the Year as well as a Mid-American Stock Car Series and Midwest Truck Series champion. He also has won the famous Bahama Brackets at Rockford Speedway.

There are many other hot shoes who will be looking to add their name to the Kar Korner All-Star 100 list. Names include: Mikie Breiner, Jim Olson, Curt Tillman, Scott Koerner, Adam Peschek, Mike Beyer, and Jake Vanoskey.

The ARCAMT Kar Korner 100 isn’t the only big race on the schedule this Saturday night. Rockford’s NASCAR Stanley Steemer Late Models will have their Star Spangled 76-lap feature event and the famous RoadRunners will also be in action.

Qualifying will get underway at 5pm with an autograph session to follow. The racing action will get underway at 7:07pm on Saturday night.

Make your plans to join us at Rockford Speedway this Saturday night!

HOTLY CONTESTED FEATURE RACES HIGHLIGHT KIDS NIGHT

By: Tom Ace

Race fans at Rockford Speedway were treated to both comfortable
weather and thrilling feature races as part of Metro Medical Kids
Night.

STANLEY STEEMER NASCAR LATE MODELS

Division point leader Jon Reynolds Jr finally put one in the win
column on Saturday night, charging to the lead on lap five of the 30
lap Late Model Feature and holding on for his first win of 2018.

Reynolds had to withstand several challenges over the race’s final
eight laps from Alex Papini en route to the checkers. During those
final eight circuits, Papini took numerous looks at the lead while
using his front bumper to massage the backside of Reynolds car in
looking for the right opportunity to take the lead. Despite coming
ever so close, Papini could not slip past Reynolds and snag his fourth
win of the season.

The two former track champions had the crowd on their feet as the
checkered flag waved, with Reynolds keeping his car straight off turn
four after one final nudge from Papini. Despite falling short of
victory, the win was a solid bounce-back for Papini, who had to
scratch his entry following qualifying one week ago after discovering
rear end issues.

Tom Gille finished third in the caution-free race, followed by Matt
Berger in fourth. Jake Vanoskey, making his first start at Rockford
since a violent wreck on Opening Night, rounded out the top five.

BARGAIN HUNTER SPORTSMAN

After working hard on the track and coming painfully close to victory
one week ago, Adam Cartwright overcame early obstacles and endured
some hard work off-the-track this week. The reward was a second win of
the season for the Roscoe resident, who inherited the lead after a lap
15 restart and sailed to victory in the 25 lap feature race.

Cartwright began the night with rear end issues on his car, forcing
him to miss some practice while only receiving one lap of qualifying.
When the green flag flew on his main event though, Cartwright and
Terrance Robinson waged an epic 15 lap tussle for the top spot, while
each car behind them found a dancing partner…creating up to four
continuous battles for position on the track! An incident between
Richie Schinderling and Cody Houseweart brought out the race’s only
yellow and shook up the field in several ways. Schinderling left the
track and Houseweart went to the back, while Josh Thiering, who held a
top five position, made his way pitside during the caution flag.

The driver who inherited the most good fortune during the yellow was
point leader Howie Ware, who was running seventh before the yellow.
but found himself fourth in the order after the chaos and elected to
restart on the bottom groove when the race restarted. Robinson lead
the field back to green but stumbled out of the blocks, handing the
lead to Cartwright. Robinson’s car then struggled to negotiate turn
one and tickled the wall, ending his chances for victory. Ware
continued to benefit from the madness, making his way to second place
by lap 17. But Ware’s run ended there, as Cartwright won the race
while Ware settled for second place. Johnny Robinson II finished
third, with Houseweart battling back to fourth and Garrick Fry
rounding out the top five.

MILLER LITE AMERICAN SHORT TRACKERS

For the fifth time this season, Franc Beldowski collected a feature
win in the Miller Lite American Short Trackers. Beldowski, who’s had a
flare for the dramatic in 2018, got past leader Aaron Rude on lap 15
when Rude’s car bobbled in turn two, opening the door for Beldowski to
take the lead and sail off to victory. Rude settled for second,
followed by Todd Bridges, who finished a career best third. Todd Snow,
who won the Bandit feature on Wednesday night, came home in fourth,
while Destiny Genore rounded out the top five.

KICKSTART ROADRUNNERS

Robby Robinson scored his third feature win of the year during the 20
lap Roadrunner main event, holding off several challenges from point
leader Kevin Memoli on his way to victory. Robinson joined Chad
Lounsbury as the only three-time winner in the class this year. Austin
Fowler followed Robinson and Memoli across the line in third, with
Brent Garnhardt in fourth and Lounsbury fifth.

RECAP: WILD WEDNESDAY (JUNE 20)

By: Clem Easterly

ROADRUNNERS

After setting the new Wild Wednesday track record in qualifying
earlier in the evening, Arlyn Roush finished off the night by winning
a thrilling Roadrunner feature race.

Roush held off a furious late-race charge from Chad Lounsbury and won
the 15 lap event by a distance of three feet. Lounsbury had a solid
night too, qualifying second (also under the old track record) and
winning both the Fast Dash and his Heat Race. Terry Gerber finished
third, followed by Nick Schneider in fourth place and Devin Opsahl
rounding out the top five.

BANDITS

Driving a steady race while staying ahead a quick group of
challengers, Rockford’s Todd Snow held on to the lead and claimed his
first ever feature win in the 20 lap Bandit main event.

Snow, who had been plagued by bad luck despite a fast car in 2018, was
able to lead the race’s final 15 laps while staying ahead of a
charging Bart Brockmann, who settled for second. Opening Night winner
Cassidy Frisch finished the race in third place, with Duane Lounsbury
fourth and Austin Nason fifth.

ORIGINAL SIXERS

Thomas Andrus started the season two-for-two in the Original Sixer
division with a win in the 15 lap “Sixermania” race. Andrus cut to the
front of the field just before halfway and was able to pull away from
the rest of the ten car field en route to the checkered flag.

Jim Crozier finished second, while Roger Thigpen raced to a third
place result. Stan Buczynski came home fourth while Sean Worman
rounded out the top five.

DOUBLE FIGURE 8

It was all Nick Schneider during the Figure 8 portion of the night, as
the Rockton resident won both the Roadrunner and Bandit Figure 8 races
on Wednesday night. With his win in the Roadrunner Figure 8, Schneider
is now two-for-two in that category so far in 2018.

DRAMATIC FEATURE FINISHES HIGHLIGHT ‘SALUTE TO DAD’ NIGHT

By: Clem Easterly

On a sweltering Saturday evening at Rockford Speedway, five divisions
took to the track as part of Tractor Town ‘Salute to Dad’ night. The
Father’s Day Eve racing program sent fans home happy following a great
night of short track racing which included a pair of “buzzer beating”
finishes.

In the Miller Lite American Short Tracker feature, Shannon Stoltz
skipped away to an early lead in the 25 lap feature event. A steady
hand from Stotlz, coupled with congestion from second place on back,
helped the Machesney Park racer maintain a stable lead. But with 10
laps to go, points leader Franc Beldowski made his way into second and
set sail for Stoltz, with visions of a fifth feature win of the year
in his sights.

Facing a straightaway deficit, the odds seemed stacked against
Beldowski, but with three laps to go, the Rockford resident found the
leader and began a frantic tussle for the top spot. Both drivers
traded the lead multiple times in the final few circuits, with
Beldowski leading the white flag lap by the skinniest of margins. But
on the race’s final lap, Stoltz found just enough to hold off
Beldowski by inches en route the checkered flag. The win was Stoltz’s
second career American Short Tracker win and his first of 2018, while
Beldowski settled for his second runner up finish of the season. David
Russell came home in third, followed by Aaron Rude in fourth and
Destiny Genore in fifth.

The 25 lap Bargain Hunter Sportsman race was a different kind of
dramatic, with two contenders separating themselves from the pack
early and dueling side-by-side for the entire race.

Johnny Robinson II and Adam Cartwright engaged in a 25 lap game of
high-speed chess on the warm northern Illinois evening, with Robinson
holding the high line while Cartwright challenged from the bottom
groove. Robinson held off every single one of Cartwright’s challenges
while trading the lead with Cartwright three times in the final seven
laps before taking the checkered flag half a carlength ahead of
Cartwright at the conclusion of 25 laps. The win was Robinson’s second
of the season, making the Beloit resident the first repeat feature
winner in the division of 2018. Cartwright collected his best finish
since his Opening Night victory back in April with his second place
result. Rookie Richie Schinderling took third place and was followed
by Howie Ware in fourth and Terrance Robinson in fifth.

In other action Saturday night…

Max Kahler was declared the winner of the 30 lap Stanley Steemer
NASCAR Late Model feature after apparent race winner Jake Gille was
disqualified in post -race technical inspection with an illegal
carburetor. The win is Kahler’s second career and his first of 2018.
Matt Berger was credited with second place, one week after winning his
first feature of the season. Jon Reynolds Jr ended up third, with fast
qualifier Jerry Gille fourth and Tom Gille rounding out the top five.

Chad Lounsbury stayed hot in the Kickstart Roadrunner division by
winning his fourth total feature of the year. Lounsbury, a three-time
winner on Saturday nights this season, also pocketed the opening Wild
Wednesday feature earlier in the week. Points leader Kevin Memoli came
across the line in second place and was followed by Brent Garnhardt in
third.

Reigning T.E.D. Transit Bandit champion Kelsey Dobbs finally made it
back to victory lane after winning a closely contested 20 lap feature.
Dobbs outran runner up Ross Lamont and third place Duane Lounsbury on
the way to the win.

RECAP: WILD WEDNESDAY OPENER (JUNE 13)

By: Clem Easterly

ROADRUNNERS

A torrid four-car battle led a caution-free 20 lap feature for the Roadrunners. After getting to the lead early, it appeared Austin Fowler was going to hold off the persistent challenges of Arlyn Roush, Chad Lounsbury and Greg Pruitt for the win. But a flat tire with under five laps to go removed Fowler from the lead and ended his shot at victory.

With that small break, Lounsbury assumed the lead on the 16th lap and skated away for the win, his third combined Roadrunner win of the year. Pruitt nosed past Roush in the race’s final two laps two claim second, regulating Roush to third. Fast qualifier Dave Lumsden Jr finished fourth while Nick Schneider rounded out the top five.

BANDITS

Two-time Winged Women on Wheels champion Cassidy Frisch started the Wednesday night Bandit season on a strong note, winning the Fast Dash, her Heat Race and the 15 lap Feature race for the class. Frisch got to the lead on the race’s third lap and held a steady lead of three carlengths or more for the balance of the race.

Fast qualifier Nick Schmidt fought off a slow start to climb back to second place by the race’s conclusion, followed by Ashley Matts in third. Saturday night winner Duane Lounsbury finished fourth and was followed by fifth place Todd Snow.

ORIGINAL SIXERS

Eleven drivers took to the track for the first Original Sixer racing program of the season and staged some of the most exciting action of the night. At the end of 15 laps, Thomas Andrus stood tall above the competition as the Rockford native got to the front early and was able to keep his closest competition at bay.

Steve Dover took second place after winning a tight battle with Bobby Frisch for the runner up position. Sean Worman came home fourth place behind Frisch while Machesney Park’s Nate Swain rounded out the top five.

WINGED WOMEN ON WHEELS

Overall it was a solid night for Ashley Matts. Not only did the Rockford native come home third in the Bandit feature, but she also claimed her first ever Feature win in the Winged Women on Wheels feature by holding off a hard-charging Cassidy Frisch for the win. Nikki Mueller finished a distant third with Lily Allen fourth.

DOUBLE FIGURE 8

2015 Figure 8 champion Nick Schneider was fast and fearless in the opening Roadrunner Figure 8 race of the season, winning by a wide margin in the 10 lap race, while Charlie Frisch claimed victory in the first ever Bandit Figure 8 race.

RACE RECAP: LPT AUTOMOTIVE NIGHT (JUNE 9)

STANLEY STEEMER NASCAR LATE MODELS

Prior to Saturday night, the 2018 season had started out in frustrating fashion for Matt Berger.

Bad luck and bad finishes had haunted last year’s points runner up during the early part of the racing season, but on LPT Automotive Night, it was Berger’s time to shine.

The Loves Park resident made his move to the front of the field after a lap 23 yellow flag and kept the rest of the competition behind him on the way to his first victory of 2018.

Berger took the lead from Dennis Smith Jr on what became the final restart of the 30 lap race, which was slowed by just two yellow flags. Smith held onto a third place finish, a stellar outing for the second year Late Model racer who had missed the most recent week of racing on May 26 after discovering issues under the hood of his race car. Two-time track champion Michael Bilderback got past Smith with five laps to go, settling for second behind Berger. It was Bilderback’s first runner up of the season after winning his two prior appearances in 2018. Alex Papini fought to a fourth place finish, while Jake Gille rounded out the top five.

BARGAIN HUNTER SPORTSMAN

2017 track champion Chad Smith was patient in his climb to the front of the 14-car field en route to his first Sportsman feature win of the season.

Smith got the lead just after halfway of the 25 lap feature race and outran Howie Ware to claim the victory. Along with the runner up finish, Ware was also the evening’s quick qualifier. Cody Houseweart finished the race in third place, while Jake Gille finished fourth in a rare appearance in the Sportsman class. Rookie Richie Schinderling rounded out the top five.

MILLER LITE AMERICAN SHORT TRACKERS

In typical dominant, yet dramatic fashion, Franc Beldowski conquered the 25 lap Short Tracker main event. After being buried in seventh position during the race’s first half, a yellow flag allowed things to clear up for Beldowski. Even with the yellow, hard work was still required for Beldowski to dispose of Rookie of the Year point leader Destiny Genore in the battle for the win. Beldowski earned the lead with five laps to go and never looked back on his way to his fourth win of 2018.

Aaron Rude finished the race in second place after a late race battle with Genore, who bounced of the turn four wall on the final lap trying to keep the second position. The result of the last lap scrape with the wall was a flattened right side and third in the scorebook for Genore. Kyle Voss came home in fourth while David Russell rounded out the top five.

KICKSTART ROADRUNNERS

Despite numerous challenges from Chad Lounsbury, Robby Robinson was able to hold onto the lead while earning his second win of the season in the Roadrunner class, besting a field of 12 cars in a 20 lap affair.

Robinson took the lead on the race’s fifth lap, thwarting Lounsbury’s run for a third feature win of the year. Lounsbury settled for second while Kevin Memoli was third. Austin Fowler finished the race in fourth place while Nick Schneider rounded out the top five. Schneider also won the Roadrunner Challenge ‘Hare & the Hound Race’ earlier in the evening.

T.E.D. TRANSIT BANDITS

Duane Lounsbury commanded the field in a caution-free 20 lap Bandit feature en route to his first win of the year. Ross Lamont made the best of his first start of the season, collecting a second place finish. Ben Rucker made a charge to third place, while Kelsey Dobbs finished fourth.

ORIGINAL TRAILER RACE OF DESTRUCTION

Randy Huen topped a field of 24 entrants and claimed victory in the Original Trailer Race of Destruction.
