Rockford , IL- As the leaders spun to the infield grass, the window of opportunity opened for Tom Flippo, Jr Wednesday night at Rockford Speedway as he motored past the spinning duo of Billy Robinson and Gene Marocco to record his first feature victory in over two years, this coming in the RoadRunner Super Summer Series feature event. In Crap Scrapper Hornet action Randy Reynolds finally recorded his first feature win of 2008 in front of an enthusiastic Wild Wednesday audience. John Beinlich, Kyle Vergata, Cullen Comastra, Robin Ulrey and Tom Schneider also recorded feature victories. The fan favorite Fastor Pastor event which places area pastors against one another in the Drevdahl Auto Body Track Cars was won by First Free’s Jake Aldrick.

Billy Robinson took the early lead in RoadRunner feature action as Tom Flippo, Jr, Gene Marocco, Richard Edge and Charlie Frisch worked their way to the leader, each taking stabs at the top spot. As Flippo attempted to gain the lead, Marocco shot to the outside, taking the runner up spot and tagging the ever widening rear bumper of Robinson. As the two headed to the stripe with just five laps remaining, both cars went into a wild spin in front of the grandstands. Flippo kept his line and inherited the lead as both spinning cars came under control without a caution, when the dust settled, it was fast qualifier Richard Nielsen in the runner-up spot, Frisch, Lennard Groleau and Dennis Smith, Jr completed the top five.

Jake Vicenzio who earlier won the Yellowbook Challenge Driver/Fan Water Balloon Toss, shot to the early race lead over Danny Heavin. Randy Reynolds methodically worked his way to the front as a logjam formed mid-pack keeping challengers at bay. Reynolds would interrupt Vicenzio’s run at the checkers before an apparent mechanical issue sent Vicenzio even further into the field. The real battle on the night involved Roger Schultz, Mark Vicenzio, Alan Bekielewski, Solomon Barker, Bryan Ellis and Justin Pearson. These six drivers sliced and diced their way through the Monza course, changing running order each lap. Ellis would eventually break free to finish second, while contact on the last lap shuffled the field once more, finding Schultz, Barker and Mark Vicenzio recording top five finishes on the evening.

Perhaps the most exciting event of the evening was the Spectacular Drags which pits street cars, one on one around the high banked oval. Competition found Robbie Ward’s mint Chrysler 300 thumping them until Ward nearly found the concrete in turn 4 in the semi finals and then receiving passenger side damage in the finals. Ward was still able to win the best two out of three finals and to the shock of all in attendance, received a victory lane kiss and hug from his better half.

Cullen Comastra was the class of the field as he recorded a clean sweep in Legend action, John Beinlich could not be beat in the Allison Legacy feature, Bandolero action saw Kyle Vergata claim the checkers while Robin Ulrey claimed the Winged Women on Wheels feature win, an event that saw multiple wild slide jobs in the third and fourth turn. The final event of the evening was the Figure 8 Feature, David Russell would be overtaken by Tom Schneider who then had his hands full with Chris Gantz through the final turn, but was able to secure the win.

The final Wild Wednesday of the season takes place this Wednesday night, August 13 featuring the RoadRunner Super Summer Series Championship event, Champions will also be crowned in Winged Women on Wheels and Figure 8 action. Additional racing will include the Crap Scrapper Hornets, Spectacular Drags, Legends, Bandoleros, Allison Legacy Cars plus the Yellowbook Challenge, the Outhouse Race. Gates open at 5:30 with the first race at 7:07PM, adult general admission tickets are $8, ages 6-11 $4 with children 5 and under admitted FREE.
