Super Late Models Stars Prepare for Rockford Short Track Championships

Rockford, IL- Forty Super Late Model competitors have officially filed their entries for the 43rd annual National Short Track Championships which will be contested September 26-28 at Rockford Speedway. These forty drivers will receive the Economic Stimulus Package which includes four Hoosier Tires, $125 Sunoco Racing Fuel credit as well as the Lefthander Chassis Racer’s Bonus Pack which is worth over $300.

Included in this list of entries are four former National Short Track Championship titlists including Jeremy Lepak who has recorded wins the last two years in this historic event. 1990 victor Rich Bickle, Jr as well as 2002 winner Steve Rubeck, will be joined by three time NSTC winner and current ASA Late Model North Point Leader Eddie Hoffman in what promises to be a hotly contested showdown of stars.

But Hoffman will not be the only series point leader to make his mark on this event as current ASA Midwest Tour front runner Dan Fredrickson attempts to secure his name in the record books, bringing his dominant machine down from Minnesota. Steve Holzhausen is the current Wisconsin Challenge Series point leader and will make his first trip to Rockford since setting fast time at the 2006 Spring Classic event.

Champions will be well represented on the track as the 2008 Madison International, Dells Raceway Park, Grundy County Speedway and Rockford Speedway Track Champions all have their sights set on wearing the Winner’s Wreath in victory lane. Nathan Haseleu, the 2007 ASA Midwest Tour and Wisconsin Challenge Series Champion was recently crowned Madison International Speedway’s Super Late Model Champion while Jerry Gille will represent the home track in the event he lost by inches just one year ago. Grundy County’s Brett Sontag and Dells Raceway Park’s Jeff Kendall will be joined by 2007 Super Late Model Champs Bobby Wilberg (Madison) and David Prunty (Slinger) on the list of contenders.

Fans won’t want to overlook the likes of Eddie May who led the most laps at NSTC in 2007, hard charging Brad Mueller, Minnesota’s Josh Vadnais, Chicagoland’s Larry Schuler and Stevie Campbell who both showed strong hands last year, Rockford Hot Shoe Ryan Carlson, Tony ‘The Tiger’ Strupp or 2007 third place finisher Dan Lensing. The storylines are plenty and the action promises to be the same during the National Short Track Championships at Rockford Speedway. Tickets are now on sale for One Great Racing Weekend which features twelve divisions of racing action, for more information including a complete schedule of events visit www.rockfordspeedway.com or call 815-633-1500.
