LOVES PARK, IL (Saturday, October 11, 2008) – It’s one of the more unique fall racing events in the Midwest as Rockford Speedway gets the 17th Annual Bahama Bracket Nationals underway. Over 170 cars are on hand to compete in the two day event.

It got underway on Saturday afternoon with qualifying. Tim Sargent set a fast time of 14.322 seconds with a total of 138 cars qualifying. Ed Klug set the fast time in the Hornet division with a time of 17.102 seconds, the best time out of 31 competitors.

After qualifying, the competitors were set into four different brackets and competed in qualifying events on Saturday night. The top four advances from the qualifying heats and the top two from Bermuda Bashes would get a starting spot for the feature events on Sunday.

In the “A” bracket, Shaun Wiltjer and Kevin Franks each won a qualifying heat race. Ed Williams Jr. won the Bermuda Bash.

Bobby Blood, Don Exline, Eddie Wolf and Doug Bennett were the qualifying heat winners in the “AA” bracket. Bill Rud and Chris Woodall were the Bermuda Bash winners.

The “AAA” bracket had Johnny Robinson II, Mike Carpenter Jr., Jarrod Sutherland, and David Lounsbury collecting qualifying heat wins. Jeff Burrows and Rodger Stephenson were the Bermuda Bash winners.

There were also four qualifying heats in the “AAAA” bracket with Mike Chadderdon, Richard Nielsen, Scott Lawver and Charlie Frisch taking the wins. Billy Robinson and Nick Newton grabbed the Bash wins.

Hornet bracket heat winners were Tim Jendrycki, Chris Czaszwicz, and Brad Chandler. Ed Klug was the Hornet Bermuda Bash winner.

The racing action will get underway at Noon on Sunday with last chance races, the Fabulous Foo Foo Races and features for each of the brackets. Five drivers will have to make the ultimate decision of cash or a trip for two to the Bahamas.
