Bilderback Makes Move to the Front Early, Cruises to Victory

By Jordan Kuehne

LOVES PARK, IL (Saturday, May 16, 2009) – When Ricky “the Rocket” Bilderback was asked before the season how many feature wins he thought he would accumulate at Rockford Speedway in 2009, his answer was ten. After grabbing his second Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Model feature win of the young season, Bilderback may well be on his way there. Bilderback cruised to an easy victory in front of a packed house as rookie Kyle Lapier and John Logan Jr. brought home the night’s other feature events.

Janesville, Wisconsin native Tim Noble jumped out to the early lead in the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models main event. Bilderback quickly moved from his ninth place starting spot up to third by lap three and immediately began challenging Noble and Kyle Shear for the lead.

After working his way past Shear for second, Bilderback made his move taking away the lead from Noble on lap nine. From there, Bilderback faced no obstacles on his cruise to the checkers, winning by a full straightaway over runner-up Jon Reynolds, Jr.

The battle would be for second through fourth as Reynolds, Jr. went side-by-side with Shear and Noble through the final fifteen laps finally making the move for second stick as the white flag flew. Noble, Shear, and Jerry Gille rounded out the top five.

Rookie Kyle Lapier brought home his first career feature win going wire-to-wire to win the Budweiser American Short Trackers marquee event. Points leader BJ Sparkman had a night of horrors after setting a new track record in qualifying.

After an early incident involving Rachel Sparkman, BJ, making a charge back to the front, got tangled up with rookie Scott Hoeft going down the backstretch on lap 15. Hoeft was sent on a wild ride through the infield grass as the right side of his car propped up against the infield wall. Sparkman’s terrible night continued on lap 20 when a flat right rear tire sent him into the turn three wall.

Lapier took the checkered flag under yellow after race control made the decision to end the race five laps early after numerous cautions. George Sparkman and Brett McCoy completed the top three.

John Logan Jr. topped a field of 29 cars to bring home the Mtn Dew RoadRunners feature in a caution-filled event. After starting in the middle of the pack, Logan Jr. charged to the front for his first feature win of the season.

In the Central States Super Cups Junior Division feature, Morgan Schissel started out front and ended the race there. Camden Murphy finished in second after riding on Schissel’s bumper for the last 15 laps.

Erik Gehrke completed the sweep in the Central States Super Cups Pro Division taking home the feature after setting fast time and bringing home a heat win earlier in the evening. Gehrke made a late race pass diving below Steve Naples exiting turn two to take the top spot.

The next event is the action-packed Friday Night Fright this Friday night, featuring the TailGator Monster Truck, Budweiser American Short Trackers, Crap Scrappers Hornets, American Thunder Jet Truck, Spectacular Drags, a Rollover Contest, FREE Monster Truck Rides and much more! The green flag flies at 7:07pm with practice getting underway at 6:15pm and gates opening at 5pm.

The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series returns next Saturday night as Camping World presents Military Night at the Rockford Speedway. The Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models, Bargain Hunter Sportsman, Mtn Dew RoadRunners, and Allison Legacy cars will all be in action on the high-banked quarter mile as well as the Sam’s Drive-In RoadRunner Challenge featuring the Double Flagpole Race.
