LOVES PARK, Ill. (Wednesday, August 5, 2009) – “Chargin” Charlie Frisch did it again on Wild Wednesday tonight at the Rockford Speedway, coming from the back to the front and holding on to win the Mtn Dew RoadRunner Super Summer Series 25-lap feature while closing the gap to just 34 points off the lead of Gene Marocco with one more Wednesday night to go. Frisch brought home more hardware winning the National Figure 8 League headliner. Derek Dixon, Dwight Dunlap, Rachael Pinkerman, Robin Ulrey and Cory Cootware also collected feature victories on the evening.
Dana “Zippity” Czach Jr. jumped out front in the early stages of the 25-lap Mtn Dew RoadRunner main event and was cruising out front until “Chargin” Charlie Frisch reeled him in on lap 10 and began working the inside line. Frisch made the bottom work, passing Czach Jr. for the lead a couple laps later and fending off a charge from fast qualifier Joe LaMarca and Czach Jr. for the victory.
“We might be a little too far behind Gene (Marocco) to catch him in the points,” stated a happy Frisch in victory lane. “That being said, we’re gonna give it our best and the car is fast every week. This car can pass really well every time.”
Czach Jr, LaMarca, Gene Marocco and Kris Nilson rounded out the top five.
Derek Dixon proved victorious in the Crap Scrappers Hornets 15-lap swarm, driving to the front when the green flag waved and never looking back, going wire-to-wire for the victory.
Dixon held off a late move by Solomon Barker for the win as Mark Vicencio, Vinny Mangiaracina and Nick Lasher completed the top five.
Rachael Pinkerman came home third in the INEX Legends 20-lap headliner but ended up taking home the trophy after both fast qualifier Tom Palma and Adam Rawski were disqualified during post-race inspection.
During the racing action, Pinkerman held off a hard-charging Bobby Yonkee for third and that turned out to be the winning move in the end.
Kyle Jusits, Cory Cootware and Dave Wastak finished off the top five.
Dwight Dunlap went wire-to-wire to win his sixth Allison Legacy Cars feature of 2009 on the high-banked quarter mile, holding off a charge from Mark Hayes for the victory.
Hayes was closing fast on Dunlap when he spun in turn two unassisted halfway into the 20-lap event. After that, it was smooth sailing over the final ten laps for Dunlap.
Austin Nason, Bill Fox, Brian Heaberlin and Kyle Voss rounded out the top five.
Robin Ulrey picked up another trophy and padded her points lead in the Stateline Staffing Services Winged Women on Wheels 12-lap main event, holding off a late charge from Olivia Chance for the win.
Jocelyn Davenport, Felisha Morgan and Chandale Swartout completed the top five.
Cory Cootware, traveling all the way from Iron Mountain, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula and pulling double duty again tonight, added another victory in the INEX Bandoleros main event. Christian Warren made a last ditch effort coming out of turn four to the checkered flag but Cootware held off the charge for the win.
Warren, Morgan Melichar, Paul Fusco and Jimmy Wessel finished off the top five.
Charlie Frisch, looking to make it two-for-two on the night, held off a charge from the figure eight ringer, Tom Schneider, and picked up the victory in the 10-lap National Figure 8 League feature.
Dennis Smith Jr, Schneider, Dan Carlson and Jeff Allendorf rounded out the top five.
