LOVES PARK, Ill. (Wednesday, July 6th, 2011) -- After getting a few days to breathe following an action-packed stretch of three consecutive holiday specials, fans wont be disappointed when they return to the legendary Rockford Speedway this Saturday night. In addition to the always exciting full slate of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing on Bobcat of Rockford Night, spectators will be gifted with a special treat: the return of Doug Rose and the Green Mamba Jet Car.
In his 49th year behind the cockpit of the behemoth, Rose will put on a pleasing display of power courtesy of his J46 jet engine pieced together from a Navy F7U Cutlass Fighter Plane. Burning over 37 gallons of jet fuel per minute, the jet car boasts a stunning top speed that exceeds 300 miles per hour.
After surviving a near fatal 1966 wreck that claimed both of his legs, Rose returned in the Green Mamba Jet Car and collected 11 National Jet Car Championships on top of over 3,700 race victories. He will put on an early display of power before lighting up the night sky and torching a vehicle to conclude the evening.
Racing on the quarter-mile will feature the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models as well as the Budweiser American Short Trackers and the Mtn Dew RoadRunners plus the Sam's Drive-In RoadRunner Challenge featuring the 2nd Over the Line Wins Race.
Adult admission is just $12 while teenagers ages 12-17 get in for only $8. Kids ages 6-11 cost a mere $5 while children ages 5 and under get in for FREE! Spectator gates open at 5pm with qualifying set to get underway at 6pm and the green flag waving on racing action at 7:07pm sharp.
