Frisch Goes Wire-to-Wire For Wild Wednesday Triumph at Rockford

By Jordan Kuehne

LOVES PARK, Ill. (Wednesday, July 27th, 2011) -- 'Bullet' Bobby Frisch outran both Terrance Robinson and Mother Nature on Wild Wednesday at the Rockford Speedway, surviving Robinson's late race advances as inclement weather loomed close behind en route to the Mtn Dew RoadRunners Super Summer Series trophy.

With weather in the area, the racing was swift and eventful as Trevor Robinson grabbed his first career Bandits triumph while Kyle Voss claimed the Fender Division win in the Misfits feature. Young gun Cory Cootware collected the overall victory in the Misfits while Mary McBride's summer reign continued with a fourth consecutive Winged Women on Wheels checkered flag.

Deanna Chandler rolled to the INEX Bandoleros win as Josh Thiering closed out a Wednesday night full of action all over the speedway with a National Figure 8 League trophy.

‘Bullet’ Bobby Frisch flew to the lead in the 25-lap Mtn Dew RoadRunners Super Summer Series main event as the elder statesmen at the 64-year-old facility, Gene Marocco, jumped up to the bridesmaid’s position.

Anthony Lloyd settled into third as Frisch found himself out front by three car lengths over Marocco with seven laps in the books. Terrance Robinson shook up the running order with a move via the high side around Lloyd for a podium spot in third. A half a mile later, Robinson peeked to the inside of Marocco entering turn three before nearly turning the venerable veteran into the infield.

Robinson assumed command of the runner-up spot after the contact as Marocco pulled off the quarter-mile high banks and into the infield with gremlins under his hood. With under ten laps remaining, Frisch came under fire from Robinson for the lead as his advantage dwindled to under a car length.

Terrance Robinson peeked to the inside of Frisch with five laps remaining as Lloyd joined the duo to make it a three car fray for the win. Nose-to-tail on the final lap, Robinson rolled to the bottom but came up a couple of feet short in his quest for the win as Frisch went wire-to-wire for his second victory of the season.

Matthew Goodwin rolled around Robbie Robinson for the early lead in the 15-lap Bandits headliner as Tim Dickson drove up to third. Dickson and contender Jason Dull breezed past Robinson as Trevor Robinson joined the action up front.

Trevor Robinson blew past Goodwin and Dull as Dickson dropped to fourth. A frenzied series of action sent Dickson to the pits with a flat tire as Trevor Robinson stole the lead and drove off into the night. Behind him, Goodwin garnered the second spot as four laps remained while Robbie Robinson and Jason Dull gave chase behind him.

With the Robinson show dominating the asphalt oval, Trevor’s bid for the win came under fire after a caution with two laps remaining claimed his relative, Robbie, and sent him home on the back of the wrecker.

Dull inherited second as Goodwin was dropped to the back for his role in the incident. The veteran of many divisions quickly tried to take advantage of his good fortune, testing Robinson via the low line before peeking to the high side as the white flag waved.

It didn't matter though as Trevor Robinson fended off Dull's late advances for his first ever feature win. Dull maintained the points lead with his runner-up effort.

The aptly named Misfits headliner got off to a swift start as Kyle Voss powered through the field in his Allison Legacy Car as young Cory Cootware nosed to second in his INEX Legend.

Cootware corralled Voss and worked his way around the veteran for the lead on lap four of the 15-lap event.

As the 13-year-old teenager from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan pulled away up front, Voss continued to ease away from his competitors in the Fender division before a hard wreck paused the proceedings with 11 laps in the books. Dwight Dunlap and Dave Cooter Sr. made contact on the frontstretch shooting the Allison Legacy machine of Dunlap hard into the frontstretch wall while Cooter Sr. spun into the damp infield grass.

When racing resumed, Cootware zoomed to a sizable advantage as Voss settled into second. The laps quickly evaporated and Cootware collected the overall win in his INEX Legend while Kyle Voss vanquished the competition for the Fender division trophy.

Jocelyn Davenport drove to the early edge in the 10-lap Winged Women on Wheels feature as Mary McBride maneuvered up to second by lap three.

A caution fell on the fourth circuit for a solo spin by Olivia Chance in turn one. McBride managed to close up to Davenport’s back bumper on the restart as the two women went door-to-door for the win up front.

McBride nudged Davenport up the racetrack and squeezed her up the track into the turn wall on the white flag lap as Mary McBride rallied for her fourth consecutive win in the division.

Olivia Chance was a benefactor of the late race action as she ended up second.

Josh Thiering took command in the early stages of the 8-lap National Figure 8 League headliner as Robert Stoltz shook things up with his move for second.

Figure 8 ringer Tom Schneider negotiated heavy traffic to move into a podium spot in third. He quickly overtook Stoltz for the bridesmaid's position with five laps remaining as Adam Cartwright looked to follow suit and maneuver into third.

Cartwright dove to the bottom of Stoltz for third with under two circuits to go as Thiering came under fire from Tom Schneider up front. Despite his ability to close the gap, Schneider came up short as Josh Thiering secured his first Figure 8 win of the summer.

Cartwright came home in third.

Deanna Chandler rocketed to the win in the 10-lap INEX Bandoleros main event as Emily ‘Bug’ Melichar’s late race rally came up a few feet short.

With the win, Chandler remained undefeated during the 2011 Wild Wednesday campaign in the division.

Racing returns to the legendary facility this Saturday night with a smorgasbord of late model action for fans to enjoy. A late model doubleheader is on tap as Rockford's own Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models take to the quarter-mile in a 30-lap jaunt before the visiting CRA/Jeg's All Stars Tour takes center stage for the 'All-Star 100'. Local favorite and defending champ Ryan Carlson will pull double duty and try to steal a win from wily veterans Eddie Hoffman, Rich Bickle, and Trent Snyder amongst others. The Mtn Dew RoadRunners will close out the racing action with a 20-lap main event.
