Lloyd Lengthens Points Lead on Penultimate Wild Wednesday at Rockford

By Jordan Kuehne

LOVES PARK, Ill. (Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011) -- Anthony Lloyd is swiftly making a habit out of navigating to victory lane in 2011 -- the hotshoe collected his third win of the season and second on Wild Wednesday en route to the Mtn Dew RoadRunner Super Summer Series trophy after fending off a charge from Bobby Frisch. In the process, Lloyd extended his Wild Wednesday points lead to 11 markers over Frisch with just one week remaining.

In other action, Tim Dickson went wire-to-wire for the Bandits win while Tim Roach rolled to the overall Misfits victory. Ben Schaitel and Dave Cooter also snagged Misfits division wins while Mary McBride's reign atop the Winged Women on Wheels came to an end when Olivia Chance worked her way by her and held on for the checkers.

Deanna Chandler took the INEX Bandoleros trophy while Josh Thiering scored his second consecutive National Figure 8 League victory to close out the evening.

Curt Nighswonger nabbed the early lead in the 25-lap Mtn Dew RoadRunners Super Summer Series main event but a caution on the second circuit bunched the 18-car field back up again.

Nighswonger sacrificed the top spot on the restart after running into the second place machine of Robert Roush and receiving the black flag. Anthony Lloyd landed the lead after the mayhem, benefitting from the lucky break as another yellow flew for the slowed machine of track elder statesmen, Gene Marocco.

Lloyd launched to a solid cushion on the restart as ‘Bullet’ Bobby Frisch looked to trigger another victory lane celebration on Wild Wednesday. With the top five spread out and hitting their marks over the next ten laps, the action was in the back of the pack.

Terrance Robinson, eyeing a podium finish, was given the black flag for a fluid leak while running third at the halfway mark as Lloyd continued to hold a comfortable three car length edge over Frisch in second.

With the laps winding down, Lloyd continued to extend his advantage, eventually putting the race out of Frisch’s reach as the breakout hotshoe collected his second Wild Wednesday victory of the year and lengthened his points edge over the runner-up finisher.

Frisch settled for second as Adam Cartwright and Dave Lumsden Jr. came home in third and fourth respectively. Rounding out the top five was Shawn Rickleman.

The 20-lap Bandits headliner got off to a quick start as Tim Dickson drove to an early edge as points leader Jason Dull sliced and diced his way up to second.

Devon Dixon and Trevor Robinson scrapped for third while Dull attempted to track down the leader up front. As Dull continued to set up a move for the lead, Dixon put the squeeze move on Trevor Robinson to claim a podium spot in third as the battle for the top spot became a three car fray.

With the top three spots looking like a high speed game of musical chairs, the race passed the halfway point with the same leader who started up front. Dixon fell back into the clutches of Robinson for third though as the laps wound down and the top two duked it out for the win.

Dixon’s slip up cost him the third spot as Robinson rolled around him for the position. Up front, Tim Dickson managed to fend off Jason Dull’s advances to collect a wire-to-wire win.

Dull came home second and probably put the championship out of reach as Robinson notched a third place effort. Devon Dixon limped home in fourth while Robin Ulrey completed the top five.

Dave Cooter corralled the top spot in the early stages of the 20-lap Misfits main event, a division that pits a motley crew of old school race cars including Legends, Allison Legacy machines, and FIRA against one another in a clash for separate trophies.

A debris caution on the second circuit paused proceedings before Cooter cruised to a comfortable cushion ahead of his fellow Allison Legacy compatriot, Kyle Voss.
Behind the leader, Voss fell victim to teenager Cory Cootware’s Legend as Canadian hotshoe Tim Roach gave chase in third.

As the race eased past the halfway mark, Roach negotiated his way by Cootware for the bridesmaid’s position and set his sights on the leader, slicing the deficit to under a car length.

With five laps remaining, Roach peeked to the inside of Cooter for the top spot but his attempt for the late race lead was thwarted by a caution for Cory Cootware’s solo trip through the spin cycle in turn two.

On the restart with three circuits remaining, Cooter made his way back to the lead but Roach’s advances finally paid dividends on the final lap – the FIRA driver completed a last lap pass for the overall win.

Dave Cooter’s run netted him the Allison Legacy victory while Ben Schaitel’s three hour foray from Wisconsin was worth it as he takes back the Legends trophy.

Josh Thiering tore to the front of the 10-lap National Figure 8 League feature, pushing past Steve Dover for the early edge.

Wild action in the back of the pack caused Figure 8 ringer Tom Schneider to lose his bearings and spin through the infield. As the race quickly blew past the halfway mark, points leader Dennis Smith Jr. soared to second as he desperately tried to track down the leader.

Smith Jr’s efforts proved fruitless though; Thiering collected his second straight Figure 8 triumph with another strong performance.

Smith Jr. carries a comfortable margin into next week's finale via his runner-up effort while Lloyd Hawkins notched a podium finish in third.

Mary McBride maneuvered to the early lead in the 10-lap Winged Women on Wheels main event but it wasn’t long before Olivia Chance cruised to the top spot on the second circuit.

As Chance paced the field around, McBride eyed a way to return to the front and keep her streak of four consecutive feature wins alive. Alas, it wasn’t to be as Olivia took no chances en route to a comfortable victory, her first of the 2011 campaign.

McBride managed a runner-up effort and holds the points lead entering next week's finale as Sue Deery came home third. Tabatha Bennett hung on to fourth while Chandale Swartout finished off the top five in fifth.

Deanna Chandler continued her dominance in the INEX Bandoleros, rolling to her fifth consecutive feature win as she claimed the eight lap event by a straightaway.

Emily ‘Bug’ Melichar took home a runner-up finish.

Chris Jones assumed command of the Bandit Challenge Hare ‘N Hound Race after the leaders took themselves out in the opening lap. While Devon Dixon chased him in hot pursuit, Jones escaped his competitor via the high banks en route to the winner’s circle.

Racing returns this Saturday night as the Kar Korner World Famous Figure 8 Trailer Race takes centerstage.
