LOVES PARK, IL (Wednesday, September 28, 2011) – Just 23 points separate the top-three in the Big 8 Series points standings with two events remaining in the 2011 schedule. One of those two events will be contested in a 108-lap feature this Saturday night at the 46th Annual National Short Track Championships at Rockford Speedway in Loves Park, IL.

Rockford’s very own Steve Rubeck will be coming into this Saturday night with a 17-point lead over Dale Nottestad and a 23-point lead over defending Big 8 Series Champion Jeremy Miller.

Last Saturday night, each of the top three had a strong run in the Fall Classic at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, WI. Miller came home second behind winner Zack Riddle while Nottestad finished third and Rubeck was fourth.

This will be second visit for the Big 8 Series this season at Rockford Speedway. Back in April at the 34th Annual Spring Classic, Nottestad held off Rubeck for the win while Miller finished 19th.

Miller then went on a roll since the opening event by winning the second event of the season on Memorial Day at Columbus 151 Speedway in Columbus, WI then at Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, WI on June 14.

Rubeck ended Miller’s streak by picking up the win at Madison International Speedway on July 1. Nottestad was second and Miller was third in that event.

The Series than visited the high banks at Slinger Speedway where James Swan took the win with Rubeck in second and Miller was fourth. Nottestad was sixth.

The championship will be decided on Saturday, October 8 with a 48-lap feature at the 42nd Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI.

The Big 8 Series 108-lap feature will be part of a busy Saturday at NSTC. Joining them will be the ASA Midwest Tour Super Late Models for their qualifying races for Sunday’s main event, the ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour 50-lap championship finale, the Illiani Midgets 50-lap event and the Illinois Vintage Racing 20-lap feature.

Nason’s Landscaping “Faster Than a Speeding Bullet” Qualifying will get underway at 2:15pm with Racing starting at 5:05pm.
