Loves Park, IL- The 2012 Rockford Speedway schedule is now available online at www.rockfordspeedway.com. Over forty motorsports events will create a season of fun during the track’s 65th consecutive year of operation at the corner of Forest Hills Rd and IL 173 in Loves Park, IL. The Stone and Double T 200 will kick off the season on Saturday April 7 with the 35th Spring Classic being held the following Sunday, April 15 which will feature the Big 8 Late Model Series, Mid-American Stock Car Series and Illinois Vintage Series. Weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action begins on Saturday night April 21.
Highlights of the season includes the return of Rock and Roll music to Memorial Day Weekend on Sunday May 27 during an all day music festival. The Original Trailer Race of Destruction joins the NASCAR racing on Saturday June 16 and is followed by the World Famous Figure 8 Trailer Race of Destruction Saturday August 4, the Beatin’ ‘N Bangin’ Boat Race Saturday August 25 and Night of Thrills Saturday September 15. Fireworks will fill the night sky in conjunction with the Star Spangled 76 Saturday June 30 and again Wednesday July 4 during the RoadRunners’ Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, a race in total darkness. Visits from the popular Illini Midgets as well as added events including a September 1 50 lap Figure 8 event also add to the overall fan experience during each event.
The Gilley’s Cool 5 Series will once again boast one of the richest point funds in weekly Late Model Racing with events May 19, June 30, July 28, August 25 and September 28. Over $10,000 will be awarded to the top drivers in those five hard fought races. September 28-30 will see the 47th annual National Short Track Championships take place on the Rockford high banks, with the return on Super Late Models in a 200 lap event on Sunday afternoon. Super Late Models will also headline the Saturday July 14 event during the All-Star 100 event.
The 21st annual Bahama Bracket Nationals on October 13 and 14 as well as the Goblin 250 Enduro and Darkhorse Demolition Derby on Sunday October 21 will bring the 2012 season to a close. Final details pertaining to the promotional aspects of each event including Kid’s Nights, Buck Nights, Car Load Deals and Military Night will be revealed in mid-March.
