Loves Park, IL- The fuel breathing excitement of four barrel carbureted, Super Late Model racing will return to Rockford Speedway in 2012. The Miller Lite All-Star 100 is slated for Saturday night July 14 while the 47th annual National Short Track Championships will be highlighted by a 200 lap event for Super Late Models on Sunday afternoon September 30.
“Both events are deeply rooted in the history of short track auto racing and I think this year’s editions will continue the great tradition of both events.” Commented Rockford Speedway GM Gregg McKarns. “They promise to be exciting as many of today’s top stars from across the region have shown interest in supporting these two events.”
The All-Star 100, first contested in 1978 has seen the likes of Mark Martin, Dick Trickle and Bobby Allison visit victory lane at the tough to tame quarter mile high banked oval. Meanwhile, the National Short Track Championship was a vision of Hugh Deery, that has become the model for short track events from sea to shining sea, and boosted young drivers into the national spotlight.
Officials announced that the winner of July’s All-Star 100 will be guaranteed a starting spot in the National Short Track Championships 200 in September. Meanwhile, the NSTC Champion will be guaranteed a spot the following week in the Dick Trickle 99 during the Oktoberfest Race Weekend at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.
“With big horsepower and big tires, it is a formula for a great battle.” McKarns added. Complete rules for the four barrel Super Late Model division will be released in the coming weeks. The All-Star 100 entry blank will be released in early May, the four tire race is slated to pay $750 to start and $3000 to win.
