(Loves Park, IL- June 2, 2012) Metro Medical Car Load night at Rockford Speedway on Saturday June 2 turned into the night of first time winners in the Late Model and Sportsman ranks, while veteran wisdom secured the winner’s hardware for three others.

Showing promise at the end of the 2011 season, the new year had not started the way John Beinlich would have liked. A few fenders and some repaired and replaced suspension parts from past weeks were all but forgotten when this young man shot into the lead of the Stanley Steemer Late Model 30 lap battle. Slinger Super Speedway Champion Wayne Freimund was biding his time waiting for Beinlich to slip, that opportunity never came as Freimund defended his territory, eventually being overtaken by Matthew Clossey. Two time Champion Jerry Gille charged from his tenth starting spot on the grid and slipped past Freimund with under ten to go, setting his sights on the lead duo of Beinlich and Clossey. The veteran Gille stuck his nose in the battle multiple times but thought better of it. At the finish it was Beinlich recording career Late Model win number one, Clossey, Gille, Freimund and fast qualifier “Driver X” Jon Reynolds, Jr.

After a few near misses, Johnny Robinson II finally found his way into the Bargain Hunter Sportsman Victory Lane. Having set fast time on multiple occasions, Robinson parlayed his speed and talent into his first career victory, passing McHenry’s Bob Moeller four laps into the twenty five lap affair. Former Champion Doug Bennett and Late Model standout Mike Beyer took their turns to disrupt the rookie’s concentration but to no avail. Beyer charged from tenth to second, he was joined in the top five by Bennett, long distance traveler Daryl Gerke and Scott Lawver.

The Miller Lite American Short Tracker field was brought to green by David Russell and Nick Letsinger, Russell grabbed the point from the inside starting spot and set sail. A brief caution allowed the field to catch up to Russell who relinquished the lead to 2010 American Short Tracker Champion Kyle LaPier who led through halfway. The triple threat of Scott Hoeft, George Sparkman and Joe LaMarca patiently worked their way through the field and as the ten laps to go signal was given by starter Jeff Stringer, Sparkman jumped into the top spot and never looked back. Hoeft would slip past LaPier for second as Rachel Sparkman motored to fourth ahead of LaMarca at the checkered flag.

Former RockStar Energy RoadRunner Champion Bobby Frisch secured the lead just past the halfway point during the Metro Medical 20 for the RoadRunners. Howie Ware kept Frisch in his sights and pulled the trigger as the white flag waved over the 31 car field. Ware crossed the line first, followed by Frisch, a hard charging Anthony Lloyd was third while 2012 took a turn for the better for fourth and fifth place finishers Derek Nichol and Jeff Allensdorf.

Adam Cartwright appeared to be on his way to the Figure 8 triumph after early race leader Lloyd Hawkins was sidelined, that all changed when his machine and that of Jim Daugherty made contact as they sped through the center X. The contact opened the door for defending Figure 8 Champion Dennis Smith, Jr to record his second win of the young season in as many starts. Derek Dobbs made the most of his return to action finishing in the runner-up position, Cartwright, Daugherty and Jonathan Stoltz completed the top five.

Racing action continues this Saturday Night June 9 during USG Kid’s Night. Children ages 11 and under are admitted free of charge to witness the Swimming Pool Jump as well as the NASCAR Stanley Steemer Late Models, Miller Lite American Short Trackers, RockStar Energy RoadRunners, American Super Cups, the Sam’s Drive-IN Sheetrock Race and the Crap Scrapper Hornets. Spectator gates open at 5, qualifying begins at 5:55 with the Stateline Staffing Services Dashes Going Green at 7:07pm. Kids will be invited onto the track before feature racing to partake in the Kid’s Coin Scramble, the local 4-H is also hosting an Ice Cream Social and will have their popular Charity Cow Kissing Booth.
