Bullet Bobby Frisch darted and dashed his way through the darkness of the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere twenty five lap feature for the RoadRunner Super Summer Series in order to record his fifth triumph in the annual event. The event which is billed as a race in total darkness played out in front of a sizeable Independence Day crowd which endured one-hundred degree temperatures at Rockford Speedway. The crowd was also treated to a fantastic night of racing and the 10,000 WATT Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Gilley’s Heating and Cooling.

A hard charging Adam Cartwright finished in the RoadRunner runner-up position while Lloyd Hawkins dodged disoriented drivers in darkness to finish third, Dennis Smith, Jr and Robert Roush also recorded top five performances.

Fast qualifier Chris Jones appeared to record his second win in as many weeks following the Bandit feature event, he was closely pursued by Mark Bielefeldt at the stripe as the duo avoided lapped traffic over the closing laps. Following post-race inspection, the win would be awarded to Bielefeldt. Tim Dickson eventually emerged ahead of the pack of cars battling for what would become second place, he was followed at the finish by point leader Terry Ciano, Robin Ulrey and Trevor Robinson.

Tracy Wallin visited victory lane after she made a fantastic pass on early race leader Destiny Robinson before pulling away from the thirteen car Winged Women on Wheels field. An impressive second place finish was recorded by Robinson who held strong through the finish, withstanding pressure from Chandale Swartwout who finished third. Cassidy Faust and Susan Dickson also showed promise as they drove their way to strong showings, finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

The first feature of the evening is usually the last, but the Figure 8’s didn’t hold anything back as nearly a dozen racers took to the eight on this night. The fast line appeared to be through track owner Mrs. Deery’s drought stricken lawn as Dennis Smith, Jr, Lloyd Hawkins and Jim Dougherty all used that line to gain positions before being warned by starter Jake Gille to stay on track. Derek Dobbs was on track and could not be caught by point leader Smith, Jr whose father Dennis Smith made a return to the eight to finish tifth. The top five behind Dobbs and Smith, Jr also consited of Daugherty and Dave Lumsden, Jr.

Vern Brown withstood contact from Dwight Dunlap as Cody Cootware dug to the inside of the Misfit feature with just four laps remaining. Dunlap who led early caught Brown when the handling went away on Brown’s open wheeled ride, but could not complete the pass and the contact allowed Cootware to shoot past into second. Brown went on to record the Misfit Open Wheeled win while Cootware was again the Misfit Fendered division victor. Kyle Voss made his first start of the season to finish second.

Doug Rose and his Green Mamba Jet along with Mechanical Mischief Monster Truck will be part of the fun this Saturday night when Bobcat of Rockford presents Racing and Wrecking. The Green Mamba and Mechanical Mischief will provide the wrecking portion while the NASCAR Stanley Steemer Late Models, Miller Lite American Short Trackers, Crap Scrapper Hornets and Sam’s Drive-In Stop ‘N Go Race will provide the racing action. Ages 11 and under will be admitted free for this event and kids are invited to arrive before racing to chalk draw on the track. Adult general admission tickets for this special event are $15 with students ages 12-17 admitted for $10. Spectator gates open at 5pm, qualifying begins at 5:55pm with the Stateline Staffing Services Dashes Going Green at 7:07pm.
