It took a while for 2010 RoadRunner Champion Robert Roush to figure out the handle on his new ride, but once he did he set sail at Rockford Speedway during Yellowbook Car Load Night. Terry Ciano, Jr was victorious in Bandit action, Wanda Dobbs bested the twelve car Winged Women on Wheels field as Vernon Brown and Cory Cootware recorded Misfit wins. Derek Dobbs ended up at the front of the field following an intense collision in the X during Figure 8 competition between early leader Dennis Smith, Jr and Jeff Watson, Jr. Both drivers were able to walk away under their own power, the same could not be said for their mangled racers.

It took just four laps for Robert Roush to grab the top spot from early race leader Kyle McQuality leaving the young driver to battle with four past division Champions for the second spot as Charlie Frisch, Gene Marocco, Alex Papini and Terrance Robinson all battled to get into the runner up spot. That all changed on the ninth circuit when a lapped machine did not head the move over flag creating a mess in turn one which ended the winning bids for Frisch and Marocco. On the restart Roush wasted little time jumping back into his lead role, Papini stole second from Robinson after contact with nine to go but could not reel in Roush. At the finish it was Roush, Papini, Robinson, Dave Lumsden, Jr and McQuality.

Joshua Craft and Robin Ulrey led the Bandit field to green for the Yellowbook 20 and it was Ulrey jumping to the point early bringing Tim Dickson with her. Five laps into the contest Ulrey and Dickson had Terry Ciano, Jr, Jacob Aldrich and Chris Jones hot on their trail. As Dickson looked inside Ulrey for the top spot, fast qualifier Ciano, Jr headed up top around Dickson and then inside Ulrey on lap eight gaining position one. Ulrey held tough on the outside in second battling with Dickson until contact between her and Jones sent her hard into the backstretch wall ending her night and relegating Jones to the tail of the field with six circuits remaining. Nobody had anything for Ciano, Jr on this night as he topped Dickson, Mark Bielefeldt, a hard charging Jones and Trevor Robinson at the checkered flag.

It only took Wanda Dobbs two laps to get to the Winged Women on Wheels lead ahead of Cassidy Faust and Tami Bielefeldt. Last week’s winner Tracy Wallin and Stacey Roach were ladies on the move as the duo worked through the thick traffic with Roach breaking into the top three on lap five. Three laps later Wallin grabbed the third spot and set her sights on the leaders, capturing second on the final lap from Faust. The top five finishers were Dobbs, Wallin, Faust, Roach and Destiny Robinson.

A five car pack made up the first half of Misfit action, eventually Tim Roach used the inside line to maneuver around early leader Cory Cootware. Roach and eventual open wheeled winner Vernon Brown went wheel to wheel for three laps before Roach surrendered the lead to Brown. The two leaders continued to battle through the white flag until Roach lost the handle on his Mini-Indy Car in turn one, spinning to the infield grass. The final rundown on the track was Brown, Cootware the fendered Misfit winner, Josh Felder and Dwight Dunlap followed by Roach.

Robert Stoltz went for a wild ride in RoadRunner Heat Race action, coming within an inch of finding his roof in turn two. The young Stoltz got his wits about him and motored to the early Figure 8 lead. Dennis Smith, Jr had other ideas as the defending Champion weaved his way through the field and into the lead three laps in. That lead would be short lived as his machine collided with that of Jeff Watson, Jr as Smith, Jr attempted to lead the half way mark. Both drivers were able to walk away from the incident but their racing was finished for the evening. Derek Dobbs inherited the lead and went onto victory, holding off a determined Jim Daugherty who kept Lloyd Hawkins behind him. Robert Stoltz held onto fourth and Dave Lumsden, Jr recorded another top five effort.

Racing action continues at Rockford Speedway this Saturday night with the running of the Miller Lite All-Star 100 for Super Late Models. The Bargain Hunter Sportsman, RockStar Energy RoadRunners, American Super Cups and Sam’s Drive-In 2nd Over the Line Wins Race will all be contested.
