April 26, 1998; Rockford, IL -Bobby Wilberg won the NASCAR Winston Racing Series 40-lap main event for NASCAR Late-model stock cars at Rockford Speedway on Saturday night. It was the first feature win of the season for the Ordfordville, WI driver who is the division's 1997 season champion.
"We plan on being here a lot more", said Wilberg after taking the lead on the 14th lap and taking the checkered a third of a lap ahead of runner-up Steve Rubeck of Monroe Center. Wilberg also scored his first heat win of the season earlier in the program.
Belvidere's Brett McCoy took the win in the NASCAR American Short Track division's 25-lap main event, also a season first. "Joe Shear was me hero", said McCoy, speaking of the late driver. "This one's for him", McCoy also runs Shear's familiar #36 on his car. McCoy was also the division's fast qualifier.
Another Orfordville, WI driver, Jimmy Robinson, won the NASCAR Roadrunner 20-lap main, his first feature win of the season.
Spl: Saturday night, May 2nd, has been named MAACO Auto Painting Night at Rockford Speedway. The NASCAR Winston Racing Series program will feature a full night of racing for the NASCAR late-model stock cars, the American Short Tracker four-cylinder division and the entry-level NASCAR Roadrunners.
The Roadrunner drivers will also compete in the fourth leg of the season long Roadrunner Challenge Series, various and exciting novelty races that are named only after the drivers and cars take to the track.
Wualifying starts at 6:15 p.m. and the first race gets the green flag at 7:30 p.m. Call (815) 633-1500 for further race and ticket information.
