LOVES PARK, IL (Wednesday, September 19, 2012) – He is a five-time Red, White, and Blue Champion. He is also a seven-time Slinger Speedway champion along with being a five-time Slinger Nationals Champion. Plus, a three-time Wisconsin International Speedway Champion, two-time MARS champion and a World Series of Asphalt champion.
Lowell Bennett has an impressive short track resume, but there is one thing that he wants to add to that, a National Short Track Championship at Rockford Speedway.
“That would be totally awesome!” Bennett recently said, when he was asked about putting his name on the incredible list of NSTC winners. “I have won other championships here in Wisconsin and even the World Series of Asphalt in Florida. But when I look at that list of NSTC winners, I would like to have my name on that list as well.”
Bennett will make his attempt on Sunday, September 30 with the running of the National Short Track Championships 200 for the Super Late Models. “This is definitely a nice way to wind down the 2012 season,” Bennett said. “We had a good year winning the track championship at WIR along with the Red, White and Blue Championship. We would like to end our year by winning this event.”
Rockford has always been a challenging track for the veteran driver. “I have studied the track and learned two things. One, the faster you go around the more narrow the track gets, especially with the tight corners,” Bennett explained. “The second is if you can work your way around the bottom groove, you will have a good day. Rockford has a preferred top line in the corners and getting around the bottom will be key to winning this event.”
The Super Late Models will qualify and qualifying races on Saturday, September 29 with the 200-lap main event on Sunday, September 30. Qualifying will get underway at 2:15pm on Saturday with racing underway at 5:05pm. Sunday’s action will get underway at 12:30pm.
The 47th Annual National Short Track Championships will take place on September 28-30 at the historic Rockford Speedway in Loves Park, IL. 12 divisions will be competing over the three days featuring the National Short Track Super Late Models, Big 8 Series, and Mid-American Series.
