Saturday night June 29th will truly be “Stanley’s Night.”
Paul McCann, owner of Stanley Steemer in Machesney Park and long-time Rockford Speedway supporter has announced that Saturday night June 29th will be “Stan Burdick Night” at Rockford Speedway. Burdick, who has been a fixture at the Speedway for every one of its 66 years in operation, will be honored as the center of attention on June 29th.
The public is invited to attend a reception to honor Mr. Burdick during the afternoon on the 29th that will be held under the Party Pavilion on the Speedway grounds. The reception is slated to start at 3 pm, allowing drivers, crews and officials alike to attend well in advance of the Saturday night racing program. Visitors will be allowed to meet and greet with Burdick and there will be many special guests at the reception. The party will carry over to the track and the night of racing will include Round II of the ‘Gilley’s Cool 5’ and the ‘Star Spangled 76 for the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models.
Burdick’s face has been a familiar one to every fan who has ever visited Rockford Speedway. During his tenure at Rockford Speedway, Burdick has served as a race official and infield marshal. For several years, Burdick was the one to light the aerial bomb which started every race program and he was also in charge of the Fourth of July ‘Fireworks Extravaganza’ at the track for several years.
Known for his pleasant personality and his blue and white ’55 Chevrolet pickup, Stan Burdick has been easily one of the most recognizable personalities in the history of Rockford Speedway. You presence is welcomed Saturday night June 29th for “Stan Burdick Night!”
