RECAP: ALL STAR SATURDAY NIGHT

By: Tom Ace

ARCA Midwest Tour Kar Korner All Star 100

After coming frustratingly close to victory in last year’s All Star
100, Roscoe’s Austin Nason left little doubt in this year’s version of
the Super Late Model Showdown. The Roscoe resident led the race’s
final 59 laps en route to one of the biggest victories of his career
and his second win along the ARCA Midwest Tour in 2018.

Despite having a very fast race car, Nason’s road to victory was far
from easy. After climbing to the lead on the 16th lap, Nason had his
left rear tire cut down in a bottleneck on lap 31. The incident was
enough to luckily bring out a yellow flag for Nason, as his crew was
able to replace the flat and quickly get Nason’s car back on track. A
myriad of yellow flags allowed Nason the advantage of moving forward
on “pick and choose” restarts, allowing him the opportunity to quickly
climb back to the front of the field.

Nason challenged Casey Johnson for the lead just a few laps later and
re-assumed the lead for good on lap 41. Despite a handful of yellow
flags over the final 59 laps, Nason was never seriously challenged for
the lead again. Johnson claimed second while Minnesota’s Jonathon
Eilen came home in third.

Florida’s Dalton Zehr finished fourth and earlier in the evening set
the new ARCA Midwest Tour track record in qualifying with a lap of
12.913. South Beloit’s Michael Bilderback rounded out the top five.

STANLEY STEEMER NASCAR LATE MODEL STAR SPANGLED 76

Speaking of Bilderback, for the second straight year, he was the man
to beat in the 76 lap Late Model feature which served as the
under-card to the 100 lap Super Late Model race.

After setting fast time in qualifying, Bilderback elected to start at
the back of the 14 car field in pursuit of the $700 Gerber Collision
and Glass Ultimate Challenge Bonus. A couple of early yellow flags
chipped away at the field, sidelining three cars by lap five, allowing
Bilderback a small assist in his climb forward.

After a second yellow flag on lap 3, the race proceeded to go 31
straight laps green, allowing Bilderback to race his way into the top
three. Following a restart just before halfway, Bilderback was able to
get into second place and challenge race leader Alex Papini for the
top spot. After a brief yet exciting exchange, Bilderback assumed the
lead on the 38th lap. Despite a couple of late-race yellow flags, the
two-time Rockford Speedway track champion was never seriously
challenged for the lead and picked up the win, his third of the season
and second in as many nights after winning Friday night’s Big 8 Series
event at Madison International Speedway.

Jon Reynolds Jr took advantage of a late race restart to move from
fourth place on lap 71 to second place when the race ended five laps
later. 15 year old Max Kahler capped off a solid night with a third
place finish, with Matt Berger coming home fourth. Wisconsin teenager
RJ Braun persevered throughout the 76 laps and was rewarded with his
first ever Rockford Speedway top-five finish.

KICKSTART ROADRUNNERS

The most exciting finish of the night was the 20 lap Kickstart
Roadrunner feature, which included no less than five cars battling at
the front of the field at any given time. When the curtain came down
on a caution-free 20 lap race, Beloit’s Chad Lounsbury outdistanced
Austin Fowler by a matter of inches at the line for the checkered flag
and his fifth victory of the year.

Fowler got to the front of the field just before halfway after getting
by Terry Gerber for the race’s top spot. Lounsbury, saddled with an
unfavorable starting position, fought into the runner up spot with 8
laps to go. Quickly Lounsbury chased Fowler down for the lead. Over
the course of the race’s final four laps, Lounsbury and Fowler went
back and fourth in their battle for the win, with Lounsbury slipping
sideways while getting after Fowler for the lead with two laps to go.
As the field took the white flag, Lounsbury got under Fowler in turn
two and the duo raced side-by-side through the final corners, with the
two drivers trading paint off the corner headed towards the finish
line. When the dust settled and the checkered flag waved, it was
Lounsbury who ground to victory by 18 inches over Fowler.

Kevin Memoli finished third after holding off several aggressive
challenges for Robby Robinson for the position. Robinson settled for
fourth, while Gerber finished fifth.

Big Entry List Announced for ARCAMT’s Kar Korner All-Star 100

Record 29 Rockford Speedway Entries Expected This Saturday Night

(Oregon, WI) – It was 40 years ago when legendary ARTGO Promoter John McKarns and Rockford Speedway Promoter Hugh Deery put together the first ever All-Star 100 event at the famed quarter-mile oval located in Loves Park, Illinois.

This Saturday night, the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment, will return to Rockford Speedway to add another chapter into the history books of this historical short track event with the 2018 running of the Kar Korner All-Star 100.

Since 1978, the race has been held under different sanctioned series. The list of winners in this event is practically a Hall of Fame itself. Past winners include: Dick Trickle (1978, 1980, 1983, 1986), Mark Martin (1979), Joe Shear (1981, 1985, 1992), Dave Watson (1982), Bobby Allison (1984), Al Schill (1987), Butch Miller (1988), Larry Schuler (1990), Kevin Cywinski (1991), Eddie Hoffman (2007), Trent Snyder (2008), Ross Kenseth (2009), Ryan Carlson (2010), Erik Jones (2011), Michael Bilderback (2012), Ty Majeski (2015, 2017) and Jeff Holtz (2016).

Michael Bilderback and Jeff Holtz the only two drivers on the list of past winners that have entered this year’s running on Saturday night.

Joining Bilderback and Holtz is a large list of drivers hoping to end their month of June with a big victory.

Current ARCAMT point leader Paul Shafer Jr. is looking for his second victory in a row after winning his first Midwest Tour event last month at Jefferson Speedway. He currently holds a one-point lead over Austin Nason in the standings.

Nason, who won the Joe Shear Classic earlier this year, feels like he has some unfinished business in this event. Last year, he was leading with three laps to go until he got the classic short track “bump and run” from Ty Majeski coming out of turn four giving the four-time Tour champion his second All-Star 100 victory. Nason has this date circled big time on his calendar.

Casey Johnson is third in the standings and is a past winner of the National Short Track Championships at Rockford. He has been so close to tasting victory in the first three events this season, he looks to break through on Saturday night.

Dalton Zehr is fourth in the standings and will head to Rockford with a two-win streak this past weekend. Last Friday night, Zehr won the feature at Norway Speedway in Michigan and 24 hours later won the Super Late Model event at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

Andrew Morrissey will be looking for his second victory of the season after winning the Cabin Fever 100 at State Park Speedway in May, while Billy Mohn is fresh off his first ARCAMT podium finish at Jefferson Speedway.

Mohn leads a rookie field into Rockford Speedway as he is challenging John Beale, Dillon Hammond, Ryan Farrell and Mike Holmgren, Jr. for the Rookie of the Year title.

Rich Bickle Jr. is a two-time National Short Track Championship winner. ARCAMT’s Ironman Jonathan Eilen will make is 122nd start.

Michael Ostdiek is fresh off a win this past Saturday night at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minnesota while Justin Mondiek has been winning in central Wisconsin. Sophomore competitor John DeAngelis Jr. hopes to start a win streak of his own this Saturday night.

Rockford Speedway regulars have also filed an entry this Saturday night. Jon Reynolds Jr. won this past Saturday night while Jake Gille is a former track champion along with Bilderback.

Ricky Baker recently won the Frank Welch Memorial at Grundy County Speedway.

Steve Apel is a former Slinger Super Speedway track champion.

James Swan is a former ARCAMT Rookie of the Year as well as a Mid-American Stock Car Series and Midwest Truck Series champion. He also has won the famous Bahama Brackets at Rockford Speedway.

There are many other hot shoes who will be looking to add their name to the Kar Korner All-Star 100 list. Names include: Mikie Breiner, Jim Olson, Curt Tillman, Scott Koerner, Adam Peschek, Mike Beyer, and Jake Vanoskey.

The ARCAMT Kar Korner 100 isn’t the only big race on the schedule this Saturday night. Rockford’s NASCAR Stanley Steemer Late Models will have their Star Spangled 76-lap feature event and the famous RoadRunners will also be in action.

Qualifying will get underway at 5pm with an autograph session to follow. The racing action will get underway at 7:07pm on Saturday night.

Make your plans to join us at Rockford Speedway this Saturday night!

HOTLY CONTESTED FEATURE RACES HIGHLIGHT KIDS NIGHT

By: Tom Ace

Race fans at Rockford Speedway were treated to both comfortable
weather and thrilling feature races as part of Metro Medical Kids
Night.

STANLEY STEEMER NASCAR LATE MODELS

Division point leader Jon Reynolds Jr finally put one in the win
column on Saturday night, charging to the lead on lap five of the 30
lap Late Model Feature and holding on for his first win of 2018.

Reynolds had to withstand several challenges over the race’s final
eight laps from Alex Papini en route to the checkers. During those
final eight circuits, Papini took numerous looks at the lead while
using his front bumper to massage the backside of Reynolds car in
looking for the right opportunity to take the lead. Despite coming
ever so close, Papini could not slip past Reynolds and snag his fourth
win of the season.

The two former track champions had the crowd on their feet as the
checkered flag waved, with Reynolds keeping his car straight off turn
four after one final nudge from Papini. Despite falling short of
victory, the win was a solid bounce-back for Papini, who had to
scratch his entry following qualifying one week ago after discovering
rear end issues.

Tom Gille finished third in the caution-free race, followed by Matt
Berger in fourth. Jake Vanoskey, making his first start at Rockford
since a violent wreck on Opening Night, rounded out the top five.

BARGAIN HUNTER SPORTSMAN

After working hard on the track and coming painfully close to victory
one week ago, Adam Cartwright overcame early obstacles and endured
some hard work off-the-track this week. The reward was a second win of
the season for the Roscoe resident, who inherited the lead after a lap
15 restart and sailed to victory in the 25 lap feature race.

Cartwright began the night with rear end issues on his car, forcing
him to miss some practice while only receiving one lap of qualifying.
When the green flag flew on his main event though, Cartwright and
Terrance Robinson waged an epic 15 lap tussle for the top spot, while
each car behind them found a dancing partner…creating up to four
continuous battles for position on the track! An incident between
Richie Schinderling and Cody Houseweart brought out the race’s only
yellow and shook up the field in several ways. Schinderling left the
track and Houseweart went to the back, while Josh Thiering, who held a
top five position, made his way pitside during the caution flag.

The driver who inherited the most good fortune during the yellow was
point leader Howie Ware, who was running seventh before the yellow.
but found himself fourth in the order after the chaos and elected to
restart on the bottom groove when the race restarted. Robinson lead
the field back to green but stumbled out of the blocks, handing the
lead to Cartwright. Robinson’s car then struggled to negotiate turn
one and tickled the wall, ending his chances for victory. Ware
continued to benefit from the madness, making his way to second place
by lap 17. But Ware’s run ended there, as Cartwright won the race
while Ware settled for second place. Johnny Robinson II finished
third, with Houseweart battling back to fourth and Garrick Fry
rounding out the top five.

MILLER LITE AMERICAN SHORT TRACKERS

For the fifth time this season, Franc Beldowski collected a feature
win in the Miller Lite American Short Trackers. Beldowski, who’s had a
flare for the dramatic in 2018, got past leader Aaron Rude on lap 15
when Rude’s car bobbled in turn two, opening the door for Beldowski to
take the lead and sail off to victory. Rude settled for second,
followed by Todd Bridges, who finished a career best third. Todd Snow,
who won the Bandit feature on Wednesday night, came home in fourth,
while Destiny Genore rounded out the top five.

KICKSTART ROADRUNNERS

Robby Robinson scored his third feature win of the year during the 20
lap Roadrunner main event, holding off several challenges from point
leader Kevin Memoli on his way to victory. Robinson joined Chad
Lounsbury as the only three-time winner in the class this year. Austin
Fowler followed Robinson and Memoli across the line in third, with
Brent Garnhardt in fourth and Lounsbury fifth.

By: Pete O’Neill

This Saturday night June 23, it’s Metro Medical Kids Night at
Rockford Speedway!

There plenty of things happening at Rockford Speedway from the moment
you walk through the gate until the moment you leave this Saturday
night. Once again, all Kids 11 and under are admitted FREE on Kids
Night. Along with free admission, Kids are invited to take part in
Kids Box Car Races at Intermission. Kids may take a simple box and
color & craft it to look like their own car or the car of their racing
hero. We will split Kids into age groups and ‘let them race’ during
the middle of the evening.

A late addition to Kids Night is Dr Danger’s Daredevil AllStars! As
seen on America’s Got Talent on NBC and American Daredevils on History
Channel, Dr Danger and his thrill-seeking sidekick Baca The Rocka will
be at Rockford Speedway with an all new set of wild and crazy stunts.
Dr Danger’s Daredevil AllStars are set to perform multiple times as
part of Metro Medical Kids Night.

Racing this weekend includes the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models,
Bargain Hunter Sportsman, Miller Lite American Short Trackers and
Kickstart Roadrunners.

Gates open at 5 PM, with Racing set to begin at 7:07 PM. Adult

names in short track racing. Drivers like Mark Martin, Bobby Allison,
Dick Trickle, Joe Shear, Butch Miller, Rich Bickle, Eddie Hoffman,
Erik Jones and Ty Majeski have won this great mid-summer classic…who
will add their name to the list?

A full field of Super Late Models are expected for this event,
including former All Star 100 winner Rich Bickle, former National
Short Track champion Jon Reynolds Jr, Joe Shear Classic champion
Austin Nason, multi-time Slinger Speedway champion Steve Apel and
multi-time Grundy County Speedway champion Ricky Baker along with
Indiana’s Paulie Shafer, Florida’s Dalton Zehr, Minnesota’s Jonathon
Eilen and many, many more!

Also joining the fray on June 30 are the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late
Models, running their ‘Star Spangled 76’ lap feature race, making ‘All
Star Saturday Night’ a ‘can’t miss’ Late Model Doubleheader.
Multi-time track champion Michael Bilderback looks to repeat as winner
of the 76 lap race while former ’76’ winners Matt Berger, Alex Papini
and Jon Reynolds Jr will also be on a quest to return to victory lane.
A solid field of NASCAR Late Models are expected next weekend in what
is one of the most anticipated races of the NASCAR Late Model season!

there’s also a big Fireworks display scheduled at the end of the show!

RECAP: WILD WEDNESDAY (JUNE 20)

By: Clem Easterly

ROADRUNNERS

After setting the new Wild Wednesday track record in qualifying
earlier in the evening, Arlyn Roush finished off the night by winning
a thrilling Roadrunner feature race.

Roush held off a furious late-race charge from Chad Lounsbury and won
the 15 lap event by a distance of three feet. Lounsbury had a solid
night too, qualifying second (also under the old track record) and
winning both the Fast Dash and his Heat Race. Terry Gerber finished
third, followed by Nick Schneider in fourth place and Devin Opsahl
rounding out the top five.

BANDITS

Driving a steady race while staying ahead a quick group of
challengers, Rockford’s Todd Snow held on to the lead and claimed his
first ever feature win in the 20 lap Bandit main event.

Snow, who had been plagued by bad luck despite a fast car in 2018, was
able to lead the race’s final 15 laps while staying ahead of a
charging Bart Brockmann, who settled for second. Opening Night winner
Cassidy Frisch finished the race in third place, with Duane Lounsbury
fourth and Austin Nason fifth.

ORIGINAL SIXERS

Thomas Andrus started the season two-for-two in the Original Sixer
division with a win in the 15 lap “Sixermania” race. Andrus cut to the
front of the field just before halfway and was able to pull away from
the rest of the ten car field en route to the checkered flag.

Jim Crozier finished second, while Roger Thigpen raced to a third
place result. Stan Buczynski came home fourth while Sean Worman
rounded out the top five.

DOUBLE FIGURE 8

It was all Nick Schneider during the Figure 8 portion of the night, as
the Rockton resident won both the Roadrunner and Bandit Figure 8 races
on Wednesday night. With his win in the Roadrunner Figure 8, Schneider
is now two-for-two in that category so far in 2018.
