It’s been a terrific start to the 2014 season for Roadrunner racer Dennis Smith Jr.

Already with two Saturday night feature wins to his credit, last week ‘DJ’ captured both the Roadrunner Super Summer Series 25 lap feature and the Figure 8 race during the first Wild Wednesday of the season.

This week, Smith again found himself in victory lane following a thrilling late race tussle with Alex Chabucos. Chabucos looked primed to win his first ever Roadrunner feature event, leading a majority of the race while the balance of the field raced hard behind him. But with two laps to go, Smith made his move for the lead. Despite Chabucos’ best efforts, Smith assumed the lead as the field took the white flag. Smith then cleared Chabucos in turn two and raced to the win, with Chabucos collecting his best career Roadrunner finish in second spot. Gene Marocco was third, followed by Adam Cartwright and Kyle McQuality.

The 20 lap Bandit feature was equally as thrilling, with Steve Dickson and ‘Chargin’ Charlie Frisch racing hard for the win. The two drivers raced side-by-side over the final ten laps, before Dickson finally made the winning move in lap traffic with under two laps to go. Frisch ended the race in second place, with Chris Jones in third. Last week’s winner Justin Pearson was fourth, followed by Kelsey Dobbs in fifth.

‘Sassy Cassy’ Frisch continued her winning ways in the Racer Girl Winged Women on Wheels, collecting her third feature win on the year. Frisch quickly made her way to the front of the six car race and held off Tami Bielefeldt for the win. Kristen Gilio finished third, her best ever Winged Women on Wheels finish.

It was emotional night for Figure 8 racer Nick Schneider, who collected his first ever Figure 8 win by topping last years Figure 8 champion Adam Cartwright. The two drivers raced hard for the lead, swapping paint and creating sparks in a late-race battle. Schneider prevailed, taking the win in the class where his late father Tom was a multi-time champion.

Former Wild Wednesday champion Kyle Voss returned to victory lane Wednesday night, picking up the win in the Fendered MisFit category. Vern Brown again topped the competition in the Winged MisFit category.

Amanda Bohn swept the night away for the Wednesday Night Super Cup Series presented by Hooker Harness, as the young Machesney Park racer won both her heat and the feature. The victory was Bohn’s first of 2014.
