BUSY AND EXCITING SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED FOR ROCKFORD SPEEDWAY’S 75th SEASON

After a winter full of planning, officials at Rockford Speedway have announced the complete Schedule of Events for the track’s 75th Anniversary Season. 

Thirty-five events are scheduled for the high banks in 2022, including Saturday night racing with the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series, Car Shows and Swap Meets, Carnivals, Drifting events and more. 

The first race of the new season takes place on Saturday night April 23, with the 45th Annual Spring Classic being run “under the lights” for the first-time ever! Spring Classic is highlighted by an 88-lap feature for the Big 8 Late Model Series & also includes the Mid-Am Racing Series and Bandits. The 45th Annual Spring Classic takes the green flag at 5 PM on April 23.

Twelve champions will be crowned at the 57th running of the National Short Track Championships on Friday, Saturday and Sunday September 30, October 1 and October 2. The weekend begins with a five-division smorgasbord on “Opening Night” Friday and continues with the return of Super Late Models on “Short Track Saturday Night” along with Big 8 Late Model Series preliminary races and a second night of Sportsman racing plus the Midwest Dash Series and Hobby Stocks. Sunday is headlined by the 188-lap Big 8 National Short Track Championship, plus the Mid-Am Racing Series and the first-ever “Roadrunner Rumble” for the Top 12 drivers in 2022 Roadrunner point standings.

Saturday night weekly racing kicks off on Saturday May 7 with the 75th NASCAR Season Opener and concludes on Saturday September 10 with NASCAR Night of Champions. Special Saturday night shows include the 75th Anniversary Celebration (Saturday July 16) and the Hugh Deery Classic (Saturday August 20), which is headlined by a 50 lap Sportsman main event. 

Traditional favorites return in 2022 including the Original Trailer Race of Destruction (Saturday June 11) and the World Famous Figure 8 Trailer Race (Saturday August 6). Two days of racing over Independence Day Weekend make up the first ever “Independence Speed Weekend” on Saturday and Sunday July 2 & 3. Saturdays program is highlighted by the return of the Must-See Racing Sprint Cars and the traditional NASCAR Late Model ‘Star Spangled 76,’ while Sunday’s card includes the Roadrunner “Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” race in total darkness and the 10,000 Watt Fireworks Extravaganza. 

The Beatin and Bangin Boat Race sails on Saturday August 27 and the fall thriller known as ‘Night of Thrills’ is back on Saturday September 17 and this year includes Figure 8 School Bus Racing, Monster Trucks, a Jet Car Meltdown, Spectacular Drags, Wild Stunts, Fireworks and much more!

Other returning fan favorites include Kids Nights (May 21, June 25, July 23 and August 13), Ladies Night (May 14) and Fan Appreciation Night (July 9) plus the Bahama Bracket Nationals return for their 32nd year on Saturday and Sunday October 15 and 16. 

Three enduro races dot the schedule in 2022, with the first scheduled for Saturday April 30 (the WXRX Ironman 250 for 4 cylinder cars) while the final two (The Ca$h of Cow 200 6 cylinder enduro and the Goblin 250 4 cylinder enduro) bring the curtain down on the racing season Saturday and Sunday October 22 and 23.
