LOVES PARK, IL – September 29, 2019 – Rockford Speedway officials and a pit area full of competitors tried their best, but mother nature was most persistent and forced the postponement of Championship Sunday of the 54th National Short Track Championships. The race will be moved to Saturday, October 26 at 1pm. The Crazy Times Pub & Grub NSTC 250, Mid-American Stock Car Series 50 and Bandit 25 will all be contested with qualifying and preliminary races for the Mid-Ams and Bandits.
Never an easy decision to make, the majority of the competitors agreed with the decision. Super late model driver, Rich Bickle, said, “I’d rather wear a snowmobile suit than a raincoat.” A veteran Mid-American competitor confirmed while the track was drying, it was still damp and very non-advisable for racing.
With more drying efforts, there was almost an hour of practice and qualifying needed before the race event could start. Weather advisors confirmed a large amount of rain coming towards the Rockford area in a matter of one to two hours, not allowing to get a complete show for the fans. “Instead of getting started and then suffering a wash-out, we would rather give our fans the full show they deserve and expected,” stated Rockford Speedway’s David Deery.
All tickets and pit passes from Sunday will be honored at the make-up event on Saturday, October 26. If the weather kept you away today, tickets will be available at the Rockford Speedway box office the day of the event, or call and reserve your tickets at 815-633-1500. The Crazy Times Pub & Grub NSTC 250 will still pay $10,000 to the winner with all lap and segment bonuses. You didn’t miss it! Make your plans now!
